সেই কৈশোরে গ্রাম থেকে চলে এসেছি। আজও গ্রামে গেলে ফেলে আসা দিনগুলি স্মৃতিকাতর করে তোলে। পুরনো বন্ধুদের সাথে কাটানো সময়গুলো পিছু ডাকে বার বার। সময় চলে যায় নিজস্ব নিয়মে কিন্তু কিছু কিছু মূহুর্ত, স্থান কখনও মন থেকে হারিয়ে যায়না। তেমনি কিছু কবিতা, গান নিমিষেই নিয়ে যায় অন্য ভুবনে, নস্টালজিক করে দেয়। এরকম একটি গান Those were the days.
গানটির কৃতিত্ব ‘জেনে রাস্কিন’ এর যিনি রাশিয়ান কবি Konstantin Podrevskii কবিতা থেকে তৈরি একটি রোম্যান্টিক গান Dorogoi dlinnoyu কে ইংরেজিতে রুপ দেন। সর্ব প্রথম ১৯২৫ সালে রাশিয়ান গায়ক Alexander Vertinsky এবং জর্জিয়ান গায়ক Tamara Tsereteli গানটির রেকর্ডিং বের করেন। কিন্তু ইংরেজী ভাষাভাষীদের মধ্যে গানটি জনপ্রিয় হয়ে ওঠে মূলত ১৯৬৮ সালে Mary Hopkins কণ্ঠে, যা দীর্ঘদিন ইউএস এং ইউকে সহ বিভিন্ন দেশের টপ চার্টে ছিল। গানটি তৎকালীন সময়ে এতটাই জনপ্রিয় হয়ে উঠেছিল যে পরবর্তীতে Mary Hopkins আরও চারটি ভাষায় গানটি রেকর্ড করেছিলেন। স্প্যানিশ (Que Tiempo Tan Feliz), জার্মান (An jenem Tag), ইতালিয়ান (Quelli Erano Giorni), ফ্রেঞ্চ (Le temps des fleurs)
এরপর প্রায় প্রতি বছরই বিভিন্ন দেশের শিল্পীরা এই গানটি কম্পোজ করেছেন। সর্বোশেষ অস্ট্রেলিয়ান গায়ক Nia Robertson তাঁর ২০১৩ সালে তার রিলিজকৃত একটি অ্যালবামেও এই গানটি রেখেছেন।
